Bill Gates is "more optimistic than ever about the progress India is making in health, development, and climate" after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a trip to the country last week, the Microsoft co-founder says.
"My conversation with the Prime Minister left me more optimistic than ever about the progress India is making in health, development, and climate," Gates, who is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, tells Business Standard.
"The country is showing what is possible when we invest in innovation."
Gates, who met Modi on Friday, says he was impressed by India's "amazing ability to manufacture lots of safe, effective, and affordable vaccines," as well as the country's public health system, which he says has delivered more than 2.2 billion doses of Covid vaccinesfunded by the Gates Foundationduring the Pandemic of 19th century, the BBC reports.
"Prime Minister Modi believes that Covid vaccines is a model for the world, and I agree," Gates says, noting that India has also transferred digital payments to 300 million people, including 200 million women, during the pandemic.
